A very eye-catching antique round gold filled locket necklace with an etched horseshoe design with 11 “paste" stones on the front. The locket hangs on a vintage 12K gold filled rope chain. This early 1900s locket was made by the CQ&R Company - see NOTE below. The locket hangs on a 12K gold filled chain made by the B. A. Ballou Company of Providence, RI.
Beautiful piece of romantic retro jewelry, circa early 1900s.
While the one side of this round antique hallmarked locket has an etched and clear paste studded horseshow design, the other side is plain with no design.
The 17 clear paste (glass) stones are set in the side with the horseshoe. The clear glass gems are all set inside the horseshoe shape and are slightly graduated in size. The smallest are at each end and the faux gems get bigger as they reach the top arch of the horseshoe. The locket closes securely with a snap. The
spring ring clasp on the new 14K gold filled curb chain also closes securely. The locket can be purchased with or without the new 14K gold filled chain.
There are two photo wells inside. Both wells are empty. One well has the CQ&R maker's mark inside it.
This antique locket is early 1900s in age.
The 14K gold filled chain is vintage and is marked on the spring ring clasp.
NOTE: The locket is marked C & QR in one well frames which is the hallmark for Carter, Qvarnstrom & Remington, a jewelry company in business in Attleboro, Massachusetts from 1899-1930. The chain was made by the Ballou Jewelry Company was established in 1869 and was in business until the early 2000s.
"Paste" stones are a type of cut glass that was produced to imitate the look of expensive gems. The most commonly used material for paste was lead glass.

Condition:
This gold filled locket is in fair to nice antique condition with wear commensurate with age - early 1900s. There is some scratching and small impressions on the front bottom left of the locket. Some of the paste gems have darkened with age See photos for detail. Item’s price reflects condition. The vintage 14K gold filled rope chain is in nice vintage condition.
Markings:
The locket is marked with CQ&R inside a triangle on one of the inner wells.
Chain is marked 1/20 12K GF BAB on the spring ring clasp.

While vintage and antique jewelry items have endured the test of time, we offer recommendations so that they continue to give you years of wear. We advise removing jewelry for washing hands, dishes, sports, before sleeping and during vigorous activity as they may be damaged. Wash your jewelry with warm water, mild, detergent-free soap, and a soft toothbrush.

The jewelry pieces in our shop are vintage or antique pieces. We do not sell modern day (new) reproductions. As such, all of our jewelry is used and has been worn and enjoyed prior to your purchase. We try very best to accurately describe the condition of each piece and show the condition in our photos.
Do you accept returns on items that have been altered?
We accept returns and refund on items only if the item is in the same condition it was when it was sent to the customer. If you choose to alter/change/modify an item, it is not eligible for a return or refund.
What is your policy for multiple returns in a short period of time?
We gladly accept returns for a full refund. However, when more than 4 returns from the same shipping address are requested within a 2 month period, we cannot accept a new order. It will be cancelled and fully refunded.
Can I purchase an item for a prop for photos, and then get a return/refund for it?
We offer customers vintage items from the past to be worn and enjoyed themselves. We cannot accept a new order when a prior item(s) has been used as a prop(s) and then returned for a refund. It will be cancelled and refunded.
