Description:
An antique etched carnelian oval Intaglio pendant featuring etched profiles of Poseidon and Amphitrite. To the right of the god's head, there are waves and a trident so it appears to be Poseidon, god of the sea.
In Greek mythology, Amphitrite was the wife of Poseidon, the god of the sea. She was a Nereid, a sea nymph, and originally rejected Poseidon's advances. She eventually married him after a dolphin intervened and persuaded her, and they had several children together, including the merman Triton - so it's Ariel's grandparents all you Disney Little Mermaid fans :-)
The back of this unique and antique pendant is plain, smooth with no carved design. The oval etched stone is surrounded by a gold filled design.
We have attached this amazing pendant to a new 20'' 14K gold filled chain. The chain secures with a spring ring clasp. The pendant can be purchased with or without the chain.
The pendant is circa late 1800s to early 1900s. The 18th century saw a strong neoclassical revival, with original Roman intaglios being highly prized and copied but that continued into the 19th century.

Condition:
This pendant necklace is in nice antique condition with wear commensurate with antique age. The back side with the plain surface shows more wear the side with the etched Intaglio. See photos and videos for details. Chain is new and in great condition.

While vintage and antique jewelry items have endured the test of time, we offer recommendations so that they continue to give you years of wear. We advise removing jewelry for washing hands, dishes, sports, before sleeping and during vigorous activity as they may be damaged. Wash your jewelry with warm water, mild, detergent-free soap, and a soft toothbrush.
The jewelry pieces in our shop are vintage or antique pieces. We do not sell modern day (new) reproductions. As such, all of our jewelry is used and has been worn and enjoyed prior to your purchase. We try very best to accurately describe the condition of each piece and show the condition in our photos.
We accept returns and refund on items only if the item is in the same condition it was when it was sent to the customer. If you choose to alter/change/modify an item, it is not eligible for a return or refund.
We gladly accept returns for a full refund. However, when more than 4 returns from the same shipping address are requested within a 2 month period, we cannot accept a new order. It will be cancelled and fully refunded.
