Lovely antique Art Nouveau Era celluloid two photo slide locket on a long vintage specialty chain. The photos have off-white colored celluloid frames which is very unique. The covers are also celluloid. The front of this large oval slide locket features a raised cameo - the head and shoulders of a long haired woman in relief. The back of the locket is plain with no design.
NOTE:
A slide locket is one that simply slides open from the sides - the top has a grommet holding both sides of the locket together so they can freely side open to see the inside wells. There is no clasp or closure on this type of locket. Inside this slide locket are two round photo wells or compartments that are about 1 1/8” in diameter.
The one well has an old black and white photo of a young man and the other is a photo of a middle-aged gentleman wearing glasses, a white shirt and a skinny tie. Both photos are circa 1920s. The original off-white cellulose frames - very unusual - and the clear celluloid covers are over both of these old photos.
NOTE: Celluloid a term coined by John Wesley Hyatt for this type of plastic he patented in 1870. Celluloid is considered the foundation of the American plastics industry as it was a first in this field. It was used to make a variety of products, including billiard balls, jewelry, and photographic film. It was replaced by other forms of plastics through the years.
This vintage and large oval cameo locket hangs from a vintage 28" long chain. This length is between what are known as Princess and Opera lengths.
The locket slides open and closed easily. There is a round grommet at the top that keeps the sides together and lets them slide open and closed freely.
The chain has elongated links and a spring ring clasp that chain closes securely. While the clasp works well, the chain is so long it easily fits over the head without using the clasp closure.

Condition:
In nice antique condition with wear as would be expected an antique item that is circa early 1900s - circa 1920s. Some light wear on the locket and patina on the chain consistent with antique age. See photos and video for details.
Markings:
The vintage chain is marked 1/20 14K (very small and very faintly) on the spring ring clasp.

While vintage and antique jewelry items have endured the test of time, we offer recommendations so that they continue to give you years of wear. We advise removing jewelry for washing hands, dishes, sports, before sleeping and during vigorous activity as they may be damaged. Wash your jewelry with warm water, mild, detergent-free soap, and a soft toothbrush.
The jewelry pieces in our shop are vintage or antique pieces. We do not sell modern day (new) reproductions. As such, all of our jewelry is used and has been worn and enjoyed prior to your purchase. We try very best to accurately describe the condition of each piece and show the condition in our photos.
We accept returns and refund on items only if the item is in the same condition it was when it was sent to the customer. If you choose to alter/change/modify an item, it is not eligible for a return or refund.
We gladly accept returns for a full refund. However, when more than 4 returns from the same shipping address are requested within a 2 month period, we cannot accept a new order. It will be cancelled and fully refunded.
