Description:
An antique Victorian locket necklace in an oval shape and with an ornate front. In the very center is an oval cameo that has a red/maroon background with a white profile of a woman in the center.
Around this cameo, on either side are some raised ribbon shapes that end in a curl. At the top and at the bottom of this cameo are three raised circle designs. There is a flat raised edge that goes all around the cameo and frames it - the cameo itself is still raised and higher than this frame.
Outside on the very outer edge of the antique oval locket is a very decorative design that is made up of a raised chain link design. This ornate frame, the trim and raised designs are is typical of Etruscan designs.
This mixed metal mourning locket has a very subtle color difference as some parts are yellow gold tone metal (the designs on the front and the plain center back) and some appear to be brass. This antique mixed metal oval locket closes securely.
The large bale is a fanned shape with a tiny rope design around the edges, and inside the bale top are 4 small circular shapes. There is a flat raised outline all around this ornate diamond shaped bale.
The hinge on this Etruscan Revival locket is on the left side and it opens from the right side by pressing the little round pieces on each side in opposite directions. Inside the locket are two oval compartments - one side still has the glass cover, blue paper backing and frame. The deep locket can hold two oval shaped photos (or a lock of hair, etc).
The back of this Victorian oval shaped locket has no design but there a raised oval about 1/8" in from the other edge that is the same as the raised frame on the front that encircles the center raised cameo.
The interior of the locket has wells that are slightly deeper than a typical photo locket which is typical of this type of locket used for mourning. (Many pieces at the time kept a photo and a lock of hair behind glass covers.)
The locket hangs from a lariat style necklace with a double rolo chain. The chain appears to be made of a gold tone metal or brass (does not test as gold filled). The top portion of the chain measures approx. 18'' with the drop giving the necklace another 3'' or so in length. The clasp has a spring ring closure that opens and closes securely.
This unique chain pairs very well with the antique locket. Amazing addition to this 100+ year old locket.

While vintage and antique jewelry items have endured the test of time, we offer recommendations so that they continue to give you years of wear. We advise removing jewelry for washing hands, dishes, sports, before sleeping and during vigorous activity as they may be damaged. Wash your jewelry with warm water, mild, detergent-free soap, and a soft toothbrush.
The jewelry pieces in our shop are vintage or antique pieces. We do not sell modern day (new) reproductions. As such, all of our jewelry is used and has been worn and enjoyed prior to your purchase. We try very best to accurately describe the condition of each piece and show the condition in our photos.
We accept returns and refund on items only if the item is in the same condition it was when it was sent to the customer. If you choose to alter/change/modify an item, it is not eligible for a return or refund.
We gladly accept returns for a full refund. However, when more than 4 returns from the same shipping address are requested within a 2 month period, we cannot accept a new order. It will be cancelled and fully refunded.
