Description:
A very special and ornately decorated antique form locket in an oval shape with dark blue enameling on the front in a cross shape. The locket hangs from a new 14K gold filled curb chain that is 18” in length. This locket is circa the Victorian Era and was most likely used as a mourning locket.
The front of this antique locket features an ornate design that fills the complete locket front. The center has the cross shape with etched leaves in between the parts of the cross. There are small etched and chased designs all around it. The dark blue enameling inside the cross shape provides an eye-catching definition for the center front of this antique piece of estate jewelry.
This locket is deeper than most and could hold photos and/or small mementos if so desired. It is about 1/4” in depth and has a slightly domed shape.
The back of this circa late 1800 to early 1900s locket has an ornate etched and chased design that fills the complete back side. It features a shield shaped cartouche at the bottom with a teardrop shape above it. All around the edges are small triangular shapes forming an oval border. It is simply beautiful.
The bale for the new gold filled curb chain is a plain round loop. This antique oval shaped locket has two compartments or wells inside. Both have a great deal of wear behind the pink paper backing that is currently inside them. There are no frames or covers on the wells, just the pink paper backings.
This vintage mourning locket has the hinge on the left, and it opens on the right.
The spring ring clasp on the new 18" long 14K gold filled curb chain opens and closes securely.

Condition:
The locket is in nice antique condition with wear and patina as would be expected. Slight wear on the dark blue enamel. There is a small section on one side of the locket on the edge (where the locket is opened up) where the gold fill has worn away to expose the base metal underneath — see photo closeups for detail.

While vintage and antique jewelry items have endured the test of time, we offer recommendations so that they continue to give you years of wear. We advise removing jewelry for washing hands, dishes, sports, before sleeping and during vigorous activity as they may be damaged. Wash your jewelry with warm water, mild, detergent-free soap, and a soft toothbrush.
The jewelry pieces in our shop are vintage or antique pieces. We do not sell modern day (new) reproductions. As such, all of our jewelry is used and has been worn and enjoyed prior to your purchase. We try very best to accurately describe the condition of each piece and show the condition in our photos.
We accept returns and refund on items only if the item is in the same condition it was when it was sent to the customer. If you choose to alter/change/modify an item, it is not eligible for a return or refund.
We gladly accept returns for a full refund. However, when more than 4 returns from the same shipping address are requested within a 2 month period, we cannot accept a new order. It will be cancelled and fully refunded.
