Description:
A very eye-catching antique round gold filled locket necklace with an etched horseshoe design with 21 “paste" stones on a new gold filled chain. This early 1900s locket was made by the Foster & Bailey Company. While the front of this round antique hallmarked locket has an etched and clear paste studded horseshow design, the back is monogrammed with 3 initials in an old cursive font.
The 21 clear paste (glass) stones are set in the locket front. The clear glass gems are all set inside the horseshoe shape and are graduated in size. The smallest are at each end and the faux gems get bigger as they reach the top arch of the horseshoe.
The back side of this lucky-themed locket is has the cursive monogram of the initials "SMC". The bale is a plain round loop. The locket closes securely with a snap. The spring ring clasp on the new gold filled cable chain also closes securely.
There are two photo wells inside. One well is empty and one has a frame and foil paper backing in place. One well has the hallmark inside it.
This antique locket is early 1900s in age.
The hinge is on the right (when looking at the horseshoe on the front) and this locket opens from the left.
The 14K gold filled chain is new and is hallmarked on the spring ring clasp.
NOTES:
- This locket, which is circa late 1800 or early 1900s, is hallmarked for the Foster & Bailey Company of Providence, Rhone Island. The company was in business from about 1878-1898. The company name was changed at that time, and it continued to operate until the mid 1900s.
- "Paste" stones are a type of cut glass that was produced to imitate the look of expensive gems. The most commonly used material for paste was lead glass.

Condition:
This gold filled locket is in nice antique condition with wear commensurate with age - early 1900s - with some darkening of some of the glass paste stones. See photos for detail. The new 14K gold filled chain is in very good condition.
Markings:
The locket is marked F&B with a diamond shape and PAT.
Chain is marked 1/20 14K GF on the spring ring clasp.

While vintage and antique jewelry items have endured the test of time, we offer recommendations so that they continue to give you years of wear. We advise removing jewelry for washing hands, dishes, sports, before sleeping and during vigorous activity as they may be damaged. Wash your jewelry with warm water, mild, detergent-free soap, and a soft toothbrush.
The jewelry pieces in our shop are vintage or antique pieces. We do not sell modern day (new) reproductions. As such, all of our jewelry is used and has been worn and enjoyed prior to your purchase. We try very best to accurately describe the condition of each piece and show the condition in our photos.
We accept returns and refund on items only if the item is in the same condition it was when it was sent to the customer. If you choose to alter/change/modify an item, it is not eligible for a return or refund.
We gladly accept returns for a full refund. However, when more than 4 returns from the same shipping address are requested within a 2 month period, we cannot accept a new order. It will be cancelled and fully refunded.
