Description:
A Victorian mourning locket in an oval shape with a small diamond in the very center of the front. The round faceted diamond is approximately 2mm in size, and is prong set inside an applied white gold diamond shaped piece in the center of an etched flower. This flower has leaves that grow above and a stem that is below it. The depressed lines of this floral shape are filled with very fine lines of black enamel or Taille d’epargne. All around the central diamond and covering the remainder of the locket front, is a textured surface.
The reverse side of this circa late 1800s locket has an ornate etched floral design that covers the complete back. The locket is slightly domed, and has 2 wells inside that have beveled glass covers. One side has a blue fabric backing under a beveled glass cover and the other side has a few wisps of light colored hair under a beveled glass cover.
The edges on both the front and the back sides of this locket have a wonderful small etched design all around them adding to the intricate look of this Victorian mourning locket.
This locket has the hinge on the left, and opens on the right using the little raised round on one side that is pressed in an opposite direction.
The spring ring clasp on the new 18" long new oval link chain opens and closes securely.
NOTE:
Taille d’épargne, sometimes referred to as black enamel tracery, is French for “saving cut.” It means that there are engraved lines in a design in metal that are filled with enamel.

Condition:
The locket is in fair to nice antique condition with light wear for an item that is circa late 1800s. The front has a slight concave shape (depression) where the diamond is set. See photos for detail. The new 14K gold filled chain is in good condition.

While vintage and antique jewelry items have endured the test of time, we offer recommendations so that they continue to give you years of wear. We advise removing jewelry for washing hands, dishes, sports, before sleeping and during vigorous activity as they may be damaged. Wash your jewelry with warm water, mild, detergent-free soap, and a soft toothbrush.
The jewelry pieces in our shop are vintage or antique pieces. We do not sell modern day (new) reproductions. As such, all of our jewelry is used and has been worn and enjoyed prior to your purchase. We try very best to accurately describe the condition of each piece and show the condition in our photos.
We accept returns and refund on items only if the item is in the same condition it was when it was sent to the customer. If you choose to alter/change/modify an item, it is not eligible for a return or refund.
We gladly accept returns for a full refund. However, when more than 4 returns from the same shipping address are requested within a 2 month period, we cannot accept a new order. It will be cancelled and fully refunded.
