Description:
A Victorian gold filled mourning locket in an oval shape with a cluster of grapes with black accent enameling (Taille d’epargene) on the front and a monogram of the initials EJW in the center of a rectangular cartouche on the back.
The cluster of grapes on the front of this oval locket has etched leaves at the top and the grapes on the vine actually hang upside down. All around the grape cluster is a textured surface.
On the back, the cartouche is in the center of an ornately designed “S” shape that is also filled with some fine accent lines of black enamel. The background has a textured chased surface.
NOTE:
Taille d’épargne, sometimes referred to as black enamel tracery, is French for “saving cut.” It means that there are engraved lines in a design in metal that are filled with enamel.
The edges on both sides of this locket have a wonderful small etched design all around them adding to the intricate look of this Victorian locket pendant necklace.
The top bale is a simple round loop. This rounded oval shaped locket has two compartments or wells inside. One side has an old sepia tone photo of a man under a glass cover, and the other side is empty.
This locket has the hinge on the left, and opens on the right using the little fold over tab on one side that is pressed in an opposite direction.
The spring ring clasp on the new 18" long new Rolo chain opens and closes securely.
Measures:
1 1/8” long (including the bale and loop) and is 1” for the locket alone. The locket is 3/4” wide at its widest section.

Condition:
The locket is in nice antique condition with light wear for an item that is circa late 1800s.

While vintage and antique jewelry items have endured the test of time, we offer recommendations so that they continue to give you years of wear. We advise removing jewelry for washing hands, dishes, sports, before sleeping and during vigorous activity as they may be damaged. Wash your jewelry with warm water, mild, detergent-free soap, and a soft toothbrush.
The jewelry pieces in our shop are vintage or antique pieces. We do not sell modern day (new) reproductions. As such, all of our jewelry is used and has been worn and enjoyed prior to your purchase. We try very best to accurately describe the condition of each piece and show the condition in our photos.
We accept returns and refund on items only if the item is in the same condition it was when it was sent to the customer. If you choose to alter/change/modify an item, it is not eligible for a return or refund.
We gladly accept returns for a full refund. However, when more than 4 returns from the same shipping address are requested within a 2 month period, we cannot accept a new order. It will be cancelled and fully refunded.
