A very different rectangular shape mixed metal locket from the Victoria Era that has a decorative front and a plain back panel. The back and sides of this book-like locket are a gold tone metal, most likely jeweler’s brass. The front has an oval shaped piece on top of the panel. This oval is gold filled and has an etched design of a bird and some wispy branches. The bird stands on a little shelf. The bird appears to be a quail (see NOTE below). This bird has a small cluster of feathers standing up on his head. There is an etched zig zag all around framing the oval piece. On the outer edges of the brass locket front are some applied rounds and rope designs providing an Etruscan feel for this antique locket. The back of the locket is plain gold tone metal with no design, and it has a beaded frame around the outer edge as does the locket front. The back of this Timeworn Treasure has a great deal of patina.
We call this locket one of our Timeworn Treasures as it shows wear and lots of patina from yesteryear but still can be enjoyed today.
The closure for this locket is an older style that consists of small round tabs that are pushed in opposite directions to open it - see photo closeup of this.
Inside the locket are two oval photo compartments. There are some blue fabric backings inside them currently.
NOTE:
Some believe the symbolic meaning of the quail represents harmony and togetherness as well as strong family bonds. Some Far Eastern cultures believe the quail is a symbol of luck, prosperity, and fidelity as quails mate for life.
The book shaped locket pendant is circa late 1800s to early 1900s in age.
The antique locket hangs from a vintage gold plated specialty link chain that is 20'' long. The heavier S link chain links feature a distinctive twist. The lobster clasp on the chain is a gold tone metal, and it closes securely.
The bale for the Victorian era locket is fanned and it has some raised diamond shapes on it that compliment the style of this rectangular antique locket.

While vintage and antique jewelry items have endured the test of time, we offer recommendations so that they continue to give you years of wear. We advise removing jewelry for washing hands, dishes, sports, before sleeping and during vigorous activity as they may be damaged. Wash your jewelry with warm water, mild, detergent-free soap, and a soft toothbrush.
The jewelry pieces in our shop are vintage or antique pieces. We do not sell modern day (new) reproductions. As such, all of our jewelry is used and has been worn and enjoyed prior to your purchase. We try very best to accurately describe the condition of each piece and show the condition in our photos.
We accept returns and refund on items only if the item is in the same condition it was when it was sent to the customer. If you choose to alter/change/modify an item, it is not eligible for a return or refund.
We gladly accept returns for a full refund. However, when more than 4 returns from the same shipping address are requested within a 2 month period, we cannot accept a new order. It will be cancelled and fully refunded.

My wife absolutely loved this piece. We were also able to find handmade engravings and trace back to the original owners. A beautiful piece and an even better story.
