Lovely antique Art Nouveau round gold filled photo locket with an ornate design set with several round faceted paste gems hanging on a 14K gold filled chain.
The front features a total of 21 clear "paste" stones. This locket’s front design features etched shapes that are accented by clear paste stones - see NOTE below about paste gems. In the bottom center of the locket front is a type of etched shield shape that has some flares at the top. On either side of this shape and growing upwards is an etched design of flowers and leaves. The flowers and leaves are set with paste gems as is the "V" shaped base of the shield shape in the center. The locket front and back have a satin finish. The bale is a plain round loop.
The hallmark on the inside of this locket stands for the Wightman & Hough Company that was established in 1856 in Providence, Rhode Island. They manufactured gold-filled, rolled gold, and sterling silver jewelry. Each piece was hallmarked with a heart containing the initials “W&H CO”. They were known for lockets, medallions, and seals. They were in business through the Art Deco era.
NOTE: "Paste" stones are a type of cut glass. Paste stones were mainly produced to imitate the look of diamonds. The most commonly used material for paste was lead glass.
Inside this locket, there are two photo wells, each with an old black and white photo circa early 1900s. One is of a man with a bow tie and the other is of a fine lady. The lady's photo is quite faded. Both frames are intact and one photo has the plastic cover still intact.
This vintage round locket hangs from a 20” long gold filled chain.
The locket, that has its hinge on the bottom, opens easily and closes securely. The spring ring clasp on the gold filled cable chain also closes securely.

Condition:
In nice antique condition with light wear on both sides as would be expected an antique item that is circa early 1900s. More wear and scratching on the back side of this locket, as it has no design. The paste stones are all intact Sone have surface wear and some have darkened with age - see photos for detail.
Markings:
The locket is hallmarked (very faint) in the center of one inner wells (under the photo) with W&H CO inside a heart shape.
The chain is marked 1/20 14K GF on the spring ring clasp

While vintage and antique jewelry items have endured the test of time, we offer recommendations so that they continue to give you years of wear. We advise removing jewelry for washing hands, dishes, sports, before sleeping and during vigorous activity as they may be damaged. Wash your jewelry with warm water, mild, detergent-free soap, and a soft toothbrush.
The jewelry pieces in our shop are vintage or antique pieces. We do not sell modern day (new) reproductions. As such, all of our jewelry is used and has been worn and enjoyed prior to your purchase. We try very best to accurately describe the condition of each piece and show the condition in our photos.
We accept returns and refund on items only if the item is in the same condition it was when it was sent to the customer. If you choose to alter/change/modify an item, it is not eligible for a return or refund.
We gladly accept returns for a full refund. However, when more than 4 returns from the same shipping address are requested within a 2 month period, we cannot accept a new order. It will be cancelled and fully refunded.
