Description:
Lovely marquis shaped 12K gold filled photo locket made by Samsan Company circa early 1900s. While at first blush, the locket look like it is in a Marquis shape, there are some fanned and tiered edges at the top and the bottom that give this locket a more rectangular shape than it first appears. The very top and the very bottom of the marquis shape come to a point, and these points extend beyond the rectangle shape of the locket front and back - a very unusual shape! The hallmark inside is for the Saman Jewelry Company that was in business in the 1940 to 1950s and was located in Providence, Rhode Island.
The front of this locket features a diagonal central etched flower with leaves on either side of it. The flower has a slight rose gold wash over it, and the background has a matte finish. Above and below the etched floral design, is a set of diagonal lines that have a plain shiny finish in the center. These two lines highlight the floral design in the middle and make it really stand out. Both above and below these lines and the flower, there are areas with a matte finish that provide even more contrast to the locket front.
The back is plain with no design and also has a shiny finish.
Inside the locket are two oval compartments for photos with both of the paper backing, plastic covers, and the frames still intact. Behind one of these compartments is the hallmark stamp.
The locket closes securely with a snap. The hinge is on the left and the locket opens from the right.
The bale is fanned and has a few vertical V shaped etched lines on the front. The vintage photo locket hangs from a new 14K gold filled Rolo link chain that is 18” in length. The spring ring closure opens and closes securely.

Locket - 1 1/3" (1 1/2” high including the bale and loop) and is 3/4" wide

Condition:
The locket is nice vintage condition with some wear / scratching as would be expected an item that is circa 1930s or earlier - see photos for detail. More scratching on the back as there is no design. The Rolo chain is in very nice condition as it is new.

1-20 12K GF and SAMSAN are in one of the inner wells
The 18” long gold filled chain is stamped 1/20 14K on the spring ring closure

While vintage and antique jewelry items have endured the test of time, we offer recommendations so that they continue to give you years of wear. We advise removing jewelry for washing hands, dishes, sports, before sleeping and during vigorous activity as they may be damaged. Wash your jewelry with warm water, mild, detergent-free soap, and a soft toothbrush.
The jewelry pieces in our shop are vintage or antique pieces. We do not sell modern day (new) reproductions. As such, all of our jewelry is used and has been worn and enjoyed prior to your purchase. We try very best to accurately describe the condition of each piece and show the condition in our photos.
We accept returns and refund on items only if the item is in the same condition it was when it was sent to the customer. If you choose to alter/change/modify an item, it is not eligible for a return or refund.
We gladly accept returns for a full refund. However, when more than 4 returns from the same shipping address are requested within a 2 month period, we cannot accept a new order. It will be cancelled and fully refunded.
