Description:
A Victorian mourning locket in an oval shape with black enameling. The front of this antique locket pendant is gold filled and features an ornate etched love knot or endless knot design that fills the complete locket front. Some areas of the etched work were then filled with enamel to accent the intricate design. The enamel provides definition for the intricate front design love knot shape.
NOTE:
A love knot design is also known as the marriage or Hercules knot. It was considered a protective amulet in Greece and Rome, and it was often incorporated into protective girdles worn by brides. In medieval and renaissance times the love knot was used as a love token.
The back of this circa early 1900s locket is jeweler's brass and has an intricate design with center cross shape with a flower at either side. All around this is an oval shape. Around this is a texturized finish and around the very outer edge of the locket back is a small beaded frame.
The top bale is a simple oval loop. This rounded oval shaped locket has two compartments or wells inside. Both have an old black and white photo inside and the glass covers are still intact. One photo is of a sailor and the other is of a woman with dark hair and a white blouse.
This Victorian Era locket has the hinge on the left, and opens on the right using the two tabs that are pressed in opposite directions.
The spring ring clasp on the new 18" long fine oval chain opens and closes securely. The wonderful locket is circa late 1800s to early 1900s in age.
Measures:
1 1/4” long (including the bale and loop) and is 1” for the locket alone. The locket is 7/8” wide at its widest section.

Condition:
The locket front is in nice antique condition with wear as would be expected an item that is circa late 1800s to early 1900s. Some wear to the enamel but overall it still looks very handsome. See photo closeups.

While vintage and antique jewelry items have endured the test of time, we offer recommendations so that they continue to give you years of wear. We advise removing jewelry for washing hands, dishes, sports, before sleeping and during vigorous activity as they may be damaged. Wash your jewelry with warm water, mild, detergent-free soap, and a soft toothbrush.
The jewelry pieces in our shop are vintage or antique pieces. We do not sell modern day (new) reproductions. As such, all of our jewelry is used and has been worn and enjoyed prior to your purchase. We try very best to accurately describe the condition of each piece and show the condition in our photos.
We accept returns and refund on items only if the item is in the same condition it was when it was sent to the customer. If you choose to alter/change/modify an item, it is not eligible for a return or refund.
We gladly accept returns for a full refund. However, when more than 4 returns from the same shipping address are requested within a 2 month period, we cannot accept a new order. It will be cancelled and fully refunded.
